Not a few Hollywood actors dream of being involved in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) project to play as a superhero. But not with the famous actor Tom Cruise.
Cruise has long enjoyed playing an action hero but never a superhero. Recently, Cruise has revived his popular role as Ethan Hunt in the “Mission Impossible” franchise and soared high with the overwhelming box office success of “Top Gun: Maverick”.
The actor, who will turn 60, revealed how he almost played Iron Man Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Until the role finally fell to Robert Downey Jr..
Prior to the release of "Iron Man" in 2008, Cruise was offered the chance to play Tony Stark but he turned it down. He recently revealed the reason why he turned it down.
As someone with a reputation for thorough work and acting himself, one of the actor's priorities seemed to be wanting control of the project. Even Cruise admits that Downey has become so attached to Tony Stark that it's hard to imagine anyone else in the role.
"(Marvel Studios) came to me at one point and when I did something, I wanted to get it right," he explained at first. "If I commit to something, it has to be done in a way that I know it will be something special."
"And when it came up, it didn't feel to me like it was going to work," he continued. "I had to be able to make decisions and make this film the best it could be, it just wasn't like that."
In another interview, Cruise confessed that he believes the role of Tony Stark is perfect for Downey. "I couldn't imagine anyone else in that role and I thought it was perfect for her."
Regarding the possibility of playing a superhero, the actor didn't rule it out but said the project should live up to his standards. "What's the story? Does that interest me?”
Christian Bale's Requirements To Be Willing To Return To Play Batman
The name Christian Bale is certainly no stranger to the ears of Batman fans. Now, the actor will enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe to play the upcoming villain in "Thor: Love and Thunder".
Bale, who has starred in the Dark Knight trilogy, said he had nothing against his role as Bruce Wayne. However, there is a condition if he is asked to return to play the character.
The condition is that the film must be directed by Christopher Nolan. Nolan directed Bale in 2005's "Batman Begins", 2008's "The Dark Knight" and 2012's "The Dark Knight Rises." He told Screen Rant that he was never spoken to about a possible sequel.
"No one ever mentioned it to me," he said. "No one brings it up. Sometimes people say to me, 'Oh, I heard you were approached and offered all of this.' And I was like, 'That's news to me. Nobody ever said that'."
He added that he and Nolan had made a pact before making the blockbuster trilogy. According to his confession, Nolan did invite him to make a trilogy, but with a note if the film was well received. After that, they will finish it.
"We said, 'Hey, look. Let's make three films, if we're lucky enough to do that. And then let's go and not linger,'" Bale said. So, if Nolan ever said he had a new idea for a Batman movie, then Bale would be happy to work with him.
In my mind, it would be something if Chris Nolan ever said to himself, 'You know, I have another story to tell.' And if he wants to tell the story with me, I'll come along," the actor added.
Bale is currently starring in the fourth installment of the MCU Thor franchise, which follows the well-received 2017 "Thor: Ragnarok", directed by Taika Waititi. Bale plays the villain Gorr the God Butcher.
